Paul-Smith-500x624Hare Styling is the latest initiative from hairdresser John Frieda’s HAIRraising appeal – a group that’s raising money for two brand new and much-needed operating theatres at Great Ormond Street Hospital. With a whole host of celebrities including Paul Smith (Picture above), Helena Bonham Carter, Tracey Emin and Stella McCartney “cutting, colouring and styling” their own hare (yes, HARE), it’s hoped that HAIRraising’s £1 million target will be reachable. PaulSmith_GleeClub_Nov2010-73Opening solo act, Gravenhurst, aka Bristolian, Nick Talbot, on guitar and a foot-forest of effects pedals was rather peculiar. Giving the appearance of the stereotypical, bespectacled, lank-haired college geek, but very far from it, his self-penned songs explore dark places with dystopian Gormenghast-like imagery and are far removed from the Folkie archetype.

Record label owner, photographer and scissor-jumping extraordinaire, the former pensioner-teaching art tutor has temporarily gone solo and has taken time out to chat about his cultural highlights of 2010 and why, although it can often feel it, London isn’t the centre of the universe.

Fashion: Happy Birthday Selfridges

Andy Warhol liked silver; Paris Hilton’s loves pink; Johnny Depp is partial to a bit of black; Tom Cruise loves the colour of money… yawn, so typical. Our favourite colour is 109, beautiful 109. Pantone 109, the iconic (not so mellow) yellow of Selfridges. It conjures up all sorts of images: quality, innovation, and most importantly all those delectable bites in the shiny food hall yum yum!
