To raise money knitwear label Grannies Inc have designed a limited edition hat to raise some much-needed cash and are urging us to get creative with our winter woollies dressing them with fluffy Age UK bobbles and add a bit of colour.

Bobble Day aims to highlight the plight of people in later life during the colder months, as over 200 older people die needlessly every day in winter because of the effects of cold weather. Age UK’s Bobble Day is part of the Charity’s annual Spread the Warmth campaign, which aims to make winter warmer for 360,000 older people by providing information, advice and practical services. These include getting warm and nutritious meals to older people, helping to keep homes warm and giving free information and advice 365 days a year.

You can decorate your own or buy a hat available exclusively from www.granniesinc.co.uk, costing £35, with £8 going directly to Age UK’s Spread the Warmth campaign.

There are lots of ways to help Age UK Spread the Warmth this winter. People can make a donation simply by calling 0800 169 87 87 or visiting www.ageuk.org.uk/bobbleday. Alternatively, they can show their support for Bobble Day by turning their Facebook profile picture all woolly with the new Knit Me app at http://on.fb.me/knitmeapp.

Amongst the list the Olympic Torch (Product) makes an appearance along with Beck’s Green Box project (Digital), Sarah Burton’s Wedding Dress design for Kate Middleton (Fashion), Why Not Associates‘ Comedy Carpet (Pictured) and Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner (Transport) – the scale of items are quite impressive.

All of the nominations will be on show at the Designs of the Year exhibition at the Design Museum from 8 February – 15 July 2012. From this comprehensive list of nominations, a prestigious jury will select the seven category winners and an overall winner for the Design of the Year 2012. The winners will be announced at an Awards Night held at the Design Museum on 24 April.

The team’s graphic designers and product development engineers pride themselves on producing cycles that are reliable, functional and of a high standard. Rather than unchaining another reproduction of the iconic Chopper, the company have looked back at the designs of retro city bikes to inspire their new range.

Raleigh have named the new, classic-inspired bikes the Chiltern, Oakland and Superbe and have focused largely on comfort, hybridity and strength in all three of their designs.

The Chiltern features an aluminium traditional city frame, lightweight alloy wheels and light-action alloy V-brakes, ensuring buyers of a light-footed, semi-effortless method of public transport.

The Oakland however, is geared toward speed, with Shimano 18 speed gears, revo-shifters and a  48/38/2T chainwheel.

Finally, the Superbe (our favourite and pictured) is set for durability, with a high tensile steel lugged frame, Sturmey Archer drum brakes and a fully enclosed chain guard.

The three cycles are currently on sale and more information about Raleigh’s range of bikes and accessories can be found on their website.

Today, CONVERSE Inc. announced the launch of their newest footwear collaboration with world-famous Gorillaz. Launching in February 2012, the styles from the collection combine the iconic Chuck Taylor All Star silhouette with the band’s legendary graphic images. Award-winning designer and Gorillaz co-creator Jamie Hewlett has designed exclusive prints incorporating elements from their ground breaking artwork.

The Gorillaz collection gives the classic Chuck Taylor All Star silhouette an edge with four different looks inspired by the band. The military inspired camouflage print, taken from the cover of their self-titled debut, is the signature design for the collection and is featured here as a sneak peek. All shoes from the collection contain a Gorillaz heel tab and hangtag with additional details on the product. The full Gorillaz Chuck Taylor All Star collection will be revealed in February 2012 and available nationwide and globally at select retail stores and online at converse.
