Being a night owl isn’t exactly difficult in a place like Las Vegas. Roaming around at 3am in the morning you don’t have to worry about being lonely with everything open 24 hours.
Luckily then for photographer Richard Brian when he is on the prowl for that elusive image he has plenty of company. Most of the images he captures are after midnight when his long exposure shots capture the movement and changing climate of the city. Although such an instant form Richard’s images can take from 3 minutes to 1 hour to shoot.
Starting off as an amateur photographer when he first moved to Vegas in 1998 Richard took pictures of bands playing at local venues. “I worked promoting concerts and bands, I’ve seen over 2000 bands play live and I just always carried an old camera around and would always share the pictures with the band members. Many have been used on CD covers and I didn’t even know what I was doing.”
Working as a Freelance Photographer for the Las Vegas Weekly Richard finds Vegas’ constant changing skyline and the demolition of old historic motels making way for new an interesting subject. “I definitely owe Vegas for where I’m at now, I’ve been working on projects in Vegas for about four years. But I do find myself traveling and going to places as far from Vegas as I can in a car - but maybe just till the cities skyline changes again."
