In October (11-14th) we are putting together a festival of visual pop culture and we’re commissioning artists and illustrators to get involved…
OPPORTUNITIES
Fused has several exciting new temporary commissions open to illustrators, artists and designers, typographers that will be taking place in Birmingham City Centre’s Southside district this October.
THE SPACES
Commission 01: Window commission (Vudu Club) – Fee up to £1,000
Vudu Club closed down last year. Painted in black it is currently standing empty and there are 16 windows waiting to be covered / decorated.
The first set of 8 x windows range from approx 1.5m high x 1.22m wide. The second set of 8 x windows range from approx 1.5m high x 1.5m wide. There is also a wood panel: 2m high x 1.7m wide. *ALL windows are part of this one commission.
Commission 02: Window commission (Oceana Club) – Fee up to £1,000
Oceana Club has closed but there is an expanse of great windows waiting to be made beautiful. Dimensions of windows: Approx average size = 61cm high x 145cm wide (there is some variation). 9 x panels on one side (pic top) and 24 on the other (pic bottom).*ALL windows are part of this one commission.
Commission 03: Freestanding pieces / Signage / Window Installations – Fee up to £1,000
There are a variety of bars, restaurants, windows, hoardings, billboards, pavements and lampposts we’ll be adding to our map of events. The proposals for these commissions should be innovative pieces that will engage passers-by as well as visitors.
What we are looking for:
-Temporary, easy to attach/apply temporary text or image pieces.
-Works that are visually stimulating and engaging to a wide general viewing public.
-Innovative works that have never been on public display.
How to apply for each commission:
Send a brief of no more than 300 words with an initial description of your ideas to include:
-What you want to do
- Which of the spaces / kind of spaces you’d like to use
- How you will approach the commission
- What materials you’ll use
- Any installation issues (e.g. indoor access / height restrictions etc)
- Examples of the style of work you are proposing to produce / previous work (these should be lo-res images or links)
- Your overall Fee*
*Fee: The maximum artist fee is £1,000 per commission and should include all materials, production, installation (depending on artist’s location this may be done by Eye Candy staff with instructions), and artist’s fee. Consideration will be taken on scale of work.
