In their new Autumn/Winter collection, Riyka poses the question ‘Are you Dancing Yet?’ The designer duo, Rebecca and Vedran, are aiming to enforce sport-luxe on the world once again from reaches of their East London studio. In a playful continuation from their ‘Shake it to Make it’ collection, their sense of directionality is admirable as they maintain their signature silhouette and style.
Riyka maintain their geometric rainbow of playfulness and simplicity, with clever combinations of easy sweats and panelled graphic leggings. Their collection clearly defines who the Riyka woman might be – comfortable, expressive and constantly on the move. The graphic dresses have a wonderful standout quality, as they mix a combination of textile in a cheeky way- leather, denim, cotton and jersey. Their playful energy also reflects a kind of girlish charm, expressed through colours like navies, bubblegum pinks and purples. The versatility of the clothes is great as their comfortability suits the day but their style can dance on way onto the night.
The colour clashes take clear inspiration from Ska music which adds to the energetic feel of the clothing, as well as a nod towards Africans textiles. The designers also explain their inspiration taken from the peacocking of the Bakongo clique from the Congo, who truly hold fashion at their heart, as in the midst of war and poverty they rock 3-piece vibrant suits and brogues immaculately.
Riyka’s ‘Are You Dancing Yet?’ collection launches late August and is available for sale from: 69b, Behave Clothing, Shop 172, and Not Just a Label. We would recommend if nothing else, a staple piece of good quality denim from the collection and join their sportwear revolution.
