Artist Lucy McLauchlan has been busy making Birmingham’s Central Library look surprisingly gorgeous thanks to her beautiful bird paintings on the side of the brutalist structure. The project was implemented and produced by EC-Arts in collaboration with and supported by The Central Library and Birmingham City Council. Music: Shambala Festival

Shambala is the original small-capacity independent festival, beginning in the West Country back in 1999, with 150 people in a field, one portaloo and a farmer’s trailor as the stage – complete with sound system hijacked from a students union.  It has come a long way since and its tenth anniversary show, last year – with the sun shining, hot tubs bubbling, after-dark antics and wild woodland escapades – was a sell out.
