Walking around the Obama’s People exhibition you start to comprehend just how large and diverse a team it is behind the man that is making political history. From his personal aide Reggie Love to the Vice-President Joe Biden no one in this series of portraits is treated as any more important than another, each portrait doing what a good portrait is supposed to: conveying something about the sitter. In these cases it combines their personality as an individual and what they bring to the Obama administration, and it is especially interesting to see if your impression of them as a person matches the role they play. When Jaskirt Dhaliwal first started her project of photographing British Asian Musicians in places of importance/inspiration to them, she didn’t imagine it would become as big as it did. By documenting the achievements of British Asians including H-Dhami, Neeta, Niraj Chag, and Sara of Trickbaby she is also documenting her own personal cultural history. “Right from Bally Sagoo and Apache Indian in the 90s to H Dhami and MIA right now, British Asian musicians have reflected or represented the culture and identity of British Asians, giving them a voice or something to relate too.” CONTINUE READING THIS POST >
