What had all the trimmings of a publicity stunt, possibly torn out of the diary of the ‘Artist Formerly Known As’ or P-Diddy, is actually a result of a fussy judicial process.  Newly ordained Santigold, the electro princess doomed to loose the ‘o’ that tied her name together, has been receiving heat from a terrible filmmaker come jeweller who is busy publicising his own debut album ‘I Am The Real Santo Gold’ (which luckily you can find on You Tube).

The director, Santo Gold of course, affectionately known to friends as Santa Rigatuso or Bob Harris (allegedly), has been mounting his attack on the rap favourite since summer, flinging accusations calling her an “impostor” while threatening to sue on the grounds that she stole his name idea.

The press release from her camp, understandably, avoided any mention of this when her name change emerged, it read: “Change the graffiti on the bathroom wall, get your tattoo fixed, get your T-shirt airbrushed and change the name on your year-end list.  Santogold is now Santigold. She’s not telling you why, that’s just how it is.”

“How it is”, the truth behind the whole episode, has robbed us, the public, of that chance to accuse her of ridiculous behaviour.  Her publicity team have been so swift in dealing with the Myspace site change that the new ‘i’ already fits, and the ‘o’ is but a memory of past merchandise.
